Rottweiler Tail Docking
Rottweiler was always known as a working breed, at the time this breed was developed to prevent their tails from being grabbed by assailants and to prevent problems which a dog could have pulling the carts (such as the tail getting caught in wheels of the carts) people docked the tail of their Rottweilers.
Nowdays even though in some countries of United States of America and in some parts of the world, Rottweiler isn't known as a working breed but more as a guardian dog, people still dock rottweiler's tails for tradition and aesthetic reasons...
Since tail docking is done at such a young age (1-3 days), they feel little to no pain because the nerve endings are still undeveloped...

Docking your dog's tail is one of the worst things you can do to it. No one takes the dog nowadays to pull carts, so the "tradition and aesthetic reasosns" are just horrible!
I`ve owned 4 Rotti`s and just getting another puppy. They cut my foreskin off when I was born and I don`t remember and it didn`t traumatize me. I guess it`s for "tradition and aesthetic reasons" too. Nerve ending are not developed yet and they don`t fell it. Do some research. They`ve been dock there tails for over 5000 years.
I got my rotti from a great breeder n his tail was already done. I like the look without it better n its a big tail so I can see it getting in the way. To each their own. My two cents..lol
It's not because it has been done for 5000 years that it makes it ok to do so. Altering a dog's body (or a human body) even when they are baby is just horrible in my opinion. It's still painful even if all the nerves are not developed. My Rottweiler mix has the most beautiful curly tail and not only I am glad he didn't get butchered, it is prettier with his natural tail!
They have beautiful tails why cut them off. Have you ever heard a puppy when they are getting their tails docked? Well if you have you would know that they suffer and experience a fret amount of pain.
I asked the breeder to keep my pups tail and it's so great. The breed standard in Europe is to have the tail. In the US, it is to dock. I think it's a shame as she is so expressive with her tail. Docking removes some of her vocabulary.
We have five rottweilers and we always dock the tails. If a perpetrator/thief comes to our property and sees our rotties tail wagging, they know the dog is friendly. If the perpetrator/thief can not see the tail they haven't a clue if the dog will attack or not. Our dogs are family and get the best of food and care. They live free on a small 13 acre farm property
My rotting has her tail and it's a lethal weapon especially when she's happy. 😃
My 8 1/2 yr old boy was already docked by the breeder. I love them both ways.

What an ignorant statement; many rottweilers today do indeed do cart pulling.
Que Bonito Cachorro...
Wow, i think its not a problem to have them tail cut, if it would be a problem to the dog then we wouldn't still do it nowadays! I had lots of rottweilers in my life, they were all fine and happy!but thats my opinion hope you all understand, its a choice u don't really have to do it if u don't want to!
My Dottie pulls carts and herds cattle. She is also a guardian dog and beloved member of our family. Complete with bed privileges and all
Oh yeah, she has a docked tail.
Rottie not Dottie

I have two rotties, both their tails are docked, one shorter than the other, there is nothing better than a butt wiggle from a docked tail. I guess it's preference
I would feel horible as a human if I would ever dock the tail of my rottie!!!
My Rottweiler is naturally born Bob tail so all of you can't complain 😉

I have a rottie and even if I wanted to dock his tail I couldn't as it is illegal in Britain. I personally think it is unnecessary to dock the tail of any dog..unless it is for medical reasons.
My Rottweiler (3 years old )still has her tail. It's natural, looks great and I love her big thumping tail when she's happy! Tail docking is horrible, I agree 100%. In fact, in Australia tail docking is now illegal. Rottweilers are so beautiful, I'd never want a docked one. Not fair on the dog!!
Very true! Our Rottie has her tail. When she's sitting on the couch with me, I always know when my wife is coming down the hall by the sound of "Midnight"'s big tail thumping enthusiastically on the back of the couch. A joyous sound.
There is nothing better than watching my rottie's tail move crazily out of joy and excitment when he sees me. It's priceless!!!
My Rottie is with tail and he looks very beautiful.
i agree i love the wiggly butt when they are happy my rottie has her tail docked and i love it that way
I've had 3 Rotts. 1 a family dog growing up, 2 that were mine as an adult. All 3 have had their tails docked but I have to say I much prefer the the aesthetics of a Rottie with a tail.
My baby has a tail, first one I have had with one! he was a rescue boy so too old to do it now! But I looked on it as similar to circumcision, I was done as a baby, never felt a thing but I remember I couldn't walk for 18 months! As I asked my VET decades ago the above statement as to the nerves still not being developed yet is true! TO EACH THEIR OWN!
Great answer. There are so many dogs that are not working anymore, like the boxer, yet their tails are docked. A Rottweiler has always had docked tails and personally they look weird with a tail. Just not in their breeding..
I so agree with you. Plus that is totally in their breed.. Of course they probably yelp, a baby boy cries when circumcised but they don't remember. Same with piercing a baby girls ears..
With my 2 living and sleeping indoors it works great not having those huge tails knocking everything over and clearing tables of everything on top
All of these comments make me laugh. I have bred rottie we have always had there tails dock and dew claw removed and never bothered them. A vet would not do something to harm an animal. I have also had a rottie with a tail it didn't bother her but it was lethal to my toddler and my elderly grandparent because the bone structure is so massive. People alway want to judge rotties what about dobbies and pit bulls they dock tails and crop there ear what is the use for cropping ears? None it's just the way it has always been. There is no harm or trauma to these babies
Tail cutting weakens the muscles involved in defecation and maintenance of pelvic diaphragm resistance, leading to increased risk of fecal incontinence, perineal hernia, and urinary incontinence in females. Dog tail removal can reduce the strength of the back and compromise balance and agility.
If you think that's okay to cut the tail of your puppy you're just very stupid
Let's cut your finger first!
Our Girl was docked when she chose us. She would look funny with a tail. She still wags her little tail so fast when she is Happy. These dogs are a Great Breed. They get a bad rap. The Best day of our Lives when she joined our family.
Docking is abuse!!

Dogs communicate a lot with body language the position in which they hold their tail, and owners should learn what those tail positions mean. So no tail means they are very disabled in some of their ways of communication. You try and communicate after someone cuts off half of your tongue.
Not trying to get s fight. Why do little baby boys have to be circumcised?
